Corby & Alli

Master Instructors - Salsa
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in South Africa, it was not until Corby came to Brisbane in 2000 that he started to learn to dance Salsa. Twice a week in a small club on Elizabeth Street, he took his first petrified steps. A year later and dancing 5 nights a week with two different teachers, Corby was introduced to Debby Smits, owner of (then) Latin Beat Dance Studio. This began a long friendship with Debby and eventually was his introduction to teaching Salsa classes and also his long time dance partner and future wife, Allison. After several years of teaching and performing Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha and Rueda he left Latin Beat to pursue dance further...
Appearing on the ABC show 'Strictly Dancing' and a spot for Channel Nine's coverage of Riverfire and several live promotions for Havana Club Rum Corby is no stranger to being in the spotlight. He has travelled widely in pursuit of new and interesting dance moves and techniques (Sydney, LA, Portugal, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic to only name a few) and has accrued an enormous library of information on Latin dance. Corby and Alli eventually started SalsAcademy, their very own dance school. A busy life of performances, teaching and travel ensued in the next 4 years, bestowing Corby and Alli with an even greater understanding of the dances they love and how to teach this to others. Many former students with fond memories of SalsAcademy can still be found today in all of the popular social venues for Latin dancing.
Corby and Alli join the Groove Dance Academy team as highly respected and talented dancers and instructors in the dance community. Groove Dance Academy is very proud and excited to have Corby and Alli on board to share their love of Salsa with their students!
